This is the trailhead for two beautiful destinations on the Glacier Gorge Trail system. Both are alpine lakes carved by glaciers several thousand years ago.
The trail to The Loch travels through a valley known as Loch Vale, and at the end of the trail is a beautiful lake surrounded by magnificent cliffs and peaks.
The second is Mills Lake, a more stark setting in Glacier Gorge under the towering shadow of Longs Peak. We can reach each trail by either of two routes. One goes east around the last Glacier Knob, and the other, up a valley between the two Glacier Knobs. Try each one for variety. The trails meet mid-way. The trail to The Loch follows along and above Icy Brook. Some actually travel on the Brook, but we tried it and fell through the ice (ruined a good hiking day).
